Rockside Hall - one of Matlock's most impressive buildings. Once a luxurious hydropathic treatment hotel, and later a hospital for convalescing WWII pilots, it was also used as a teacher training college, before falling into appalling disrepair.
Converted relatively recently into flats that appear to have the most stunning views.
More history here..

A visit to Newcastle - a wonderful city for fans of architecture, amongst many other things. I love scruffy corners like this which present an array of differing styles. Just look at all those different bricks...

A pair of Canada Geese in visual harmony, photographed at the Cromford Pool, a couple of miles from Matlock.
Sir Richard Arkwright, in search of a more efficient source of power, built his first water-powered mill here in 1771, having already creating a horse-powered mill in nearby Nottingham.

Another trip to Buxton and yet more rain - will return to photograph the Royal Crescent once the redevelopment is complete. More info here.
It's of particular interest to me since it was based upon the Royal Crescent in Bath, a building I have photographed many, many times.

This is the view from Matlock Bank towards Starkholmes. The tower towards the right of the shot is part of Smedley's Hydro, a fascinating building that I hope to photograph thoroughly over the next few months.

At the end of May, I finally relocated to Matlock in Derbyshire, primarily to be closer to the rest of my family. The scenery here on the edge of the Peak District is stunning and we arrived to find excellent weather. The architecture in Matlock itself will keep me busy for the next few months I suspect - watch this space!
I have also started a new job and stopped on the way home last Monday to take this picture. This is the first image on the entire site to be taken using a mobile phone, and shows the view towards Cromford, a village close to Matlock.

Plenty of balloons flying over Bath at this time of year - I was hoping to get a different angle with this one, an image set to be my last from the South West...

My home town of Lincoln has one of the finest gothic buildings in Europe.
It seems like the ideal shot to celebrate one year of This month images.

A bit of one-footed photography here (still on crutches after 9 weeks).
I get very excited about this beautiful landmark, partly as it always pops up at
the end of the long trek to see my sister.
I am unable to drive past without stopping for a photo...

In case you have never seen The Angel of the North, it is well worth a trip. Absolutely stunning.
Public art seems high on the agenda in Gateshead and, across the Tyne River
in Newcastle, you have some fantastic architecture and there is always plenty
going on.

An interesting month which saw the end of my footballing career (this is, of course, far too grand a term!). I dislocated my ankle and broke my leg playing 5 a side exactly one month ago and enjoyed a stay in Bath's Royal United Hospital. I was extremely well looked after and had an operation to screw it all back together. I have to return soon to have the big screw removed (see below).
As a result, my photography has been restricted to photos of my 7 month old daughter trying to bite my crutches!
One positive to come from my sedentary lifestyle, is that my on-line shop has finally been completed. I hope you find something you like...

A change of job....
I have spent much of the past 5 years looking out of this window.
What a terrific view - you can click the image to see a bigger version.
Reviewing the shots on my PC, I noticed the clouds had moved slightly between frames, making a fairly pleasant animation, which can be seen below.

Bath has been taken over by pigs!
King Bladud's Pigs is a public art exhibition featuring 100 pig sculptures. It is designed to celebrate Bath, its origins and its artists, and provide residents and visitors with some artistic enjoyment.
I've photographed many of the pigs, but 'Roger' here is easily my favourite. The artist is Josh Wiley and the pig is sponsored by Monkton Combe School.

Visited Buxton earlier in the month. The weather was terrible and I was struck down with what I believe to be the 'noro-virus'. Still managed a few decent shots, including this one of Buxton's beautiful Opera House, rendered in pseudo HDR.

I occasionally take the train to work and then walk through Keynsham Memorial Park. I made time for a few photos recently, in the hope of capturing the absolute serenity. Despite a fantastically clear blue sky on this particular morning, I opted for black and white. I find it shifts the focus to the shadows.
